For Those Who Inquire
THIS IS THE PAGE WHERE THE QUESTIONS START.
Here you will find some topics that I started to deal with during my journey out of faith. The main purpose of this site—and especially this page—is to help those who are questioning what they’ve always believed—those who sincerely want to examine what they’ve been taught.
Full disclosure: If it isn’t already apparent, I am no longer a Christian. The information I present here is with with that bent… that perspective… that bias. I used to be (was raised as) a Christian; I left Christianity when I was in my early 40s. My mission does indeed have a supposition. That supposition is: Christianity does not pass the objectivity test—the test of being true. That’s where I’m coming from.
This isn’t going to mix well with the Christian’s bias—that Christianity is true no matter what “evidence” is presented to the contrary. For the Christian, inquiry is good only if said inquiry leads to confirmation of their Christian faith. Sincere and open questions (those questions which can truly scrutinize credibility) cannot be asked; the questions themselves are heretical.
No one is unbiased. As a Christian, I certainly was biased; as a non-Christian I certainly am. I think it’s important to be honest with ourselves, and others, about that.
Some of these arguments might seem “defensive.” I don’t have a problem with that. If someone tells me, “you’re being so defensive!” my response is usually, first, to examine my own frame of mind, to see if I need to change my attitude; then, sometimes I’ll respond with, “Yes; if I’m being attacked, I’ll defend myself.” I think the accusation, “you’re being defensive,” is often used because the accuser merely wants to attack without pushback. (Jus’ sayin’.) Plus, Christians have the entire theater of Apologetics, and they use that grouping of arguments without apology (pun intended).
Many Christians insist they know more about an atheist’s situation than the atheist does: “You’re mad at God;” “You were hurt by the church;” “You really believe, but you’re not being honest;” “You just want to sin.” My suggestion to those who think they know more about the atheist than the atheist does: Listen to the atheist. Let go of your preconceived ideas… and listen. Devolving into shaming is a quick way to stop the convo. If you get to be sincere, allow others to be sincere too; you might just learn something.
One more thing. I believe my arguments are valid and cogent. Yet I am not an academic. I am not a biblical scholar. My viewpoints are definitely presented from a “lay” person’s perspective. I don’t apologize for that, since most of the people “God” will ostensibly end up denying (Matthew 7:21-23) will be just like me… limited in our understanding, and only aware of what we actually know. (Think about that for a minute.)

TOPICS & QUESTIONS
These topics address some of
the questions that I wrestled with during my “deconversion.”
I’ve also included a few issues and arguments that non-believers are
frequently asked about when discussing their unbelief.

Why Faith? Why does God require Faith as the determining factor in deciding my eternal destiny?
This is possibly the biggest question I pondered when I was beginning my journey away from religion. I actually remember standing at my kitchen island and asking myself, “WHY FAITH?” I couldn’t fathom that the God of the universe would use Faith as the determining factor in whether I’d…

“Some of these arguments sound compelling, but I couldn’t leave the Church; it’s my whole life! All my friends are Christians. My entire social life… my marriage and my family… how could I ever leave all that?“
In my opinion this is often the biggest obstacle to deconstructing from Christianity. If you’re truly absorbed in your faith, your whole life is wrapped up in your belief. Adopting a new world view is so much…
